Welcome to our DPO Fundamentals programme.
As you may already know, data protection is becoming increasingly important in today’s digital age. Complying with GDPR and handling personal data with care, is in any company’s best interest. As a DPO, you play a critical role in ensuring that your organisation meets these requirements.
During this three-day training program, you will learn about the fundamentals of data protection and how to apply them in your organisation. The training will cover a range of topics, including data protection principles, data subject rights, and data protection impact assessments. We’ll also have a look at the information security aspect of GDPR.
At the end of the training period and after studying, you can plan the certification exam online in your own time and convenient moment, in order to demonstrate your understanding of the material. Upon successful completion of the exam, you will receive a certificate confirming your status as a certified DPO.

Course contents.
In the first chapter, we introduce the elementary aspects of Data Protection.
- Introduction to Data Protection: An introduction to Data Protection and the elementary aspects of it.
- Data Processing Principles: An explanation and application of the different principles within the GDPR.
- Legal Grounds: An explanation of the different legal ground with their limitations.
- Data Subject’s Rights: The different rights of Data Subjects explained.
In the second part, we will go deeper into how to manage data protection as an organisation.
- Risks: The different risks inherent to the processing of personal data.
- Accountability of Organisations: How the accountability of organisations is foreseen under GDPR.
- Record of Processing Activities: What the ROPA can mean for your organisation beyond compliance.
- Data Protection by default: How a new culture can improve your data compliance.
The third part will tell us more about certain specific aspects relevant for the Data Protection Officer.
- Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA): What is a DPIA, and what is the role of the DPO?
- Implementation: How can you implement a Data Protection within an organisation?
- Data Protection Officer: What are exactly the responsibilities of a DPO and how compatible is the role with other functions?
- International Data Transfers: What added element is there to consider when data is processed beyond the European Economic Area?
- Supervision and Enforcement: How is the GDPR supervised and enforced?
- Personal Data Breaches: What exactly is a breach and how is an organisation expected to respond?
The fourth part of the DPO Fundamentals course is getting the certification. This is not part of the physical course planning. You can choose when you want to participate in the exam.
The certification exam is entirely online. After successful passing, you will receive the accompanying certificate.
